This was a new track and a new place for this soon to be three year old. Adele sat astride her massive bay colt. They had run a light 2yo season, having entered late into the year, but now with the opening of The Wire and GHF, Adele was sure that her Predator would go places this upcoming year.
The dirt track was pristine here, there was new dirt and it was freshly raked. They looked to be the first pair here...perfect!
Adele preferred to train the bay stud colt, when there was little to no people around..it definitely put both of them more at ease. Predator was a bit of an oddball at Intrepid Racing. Sure, Nick was used to War Admiral, Augusto lined horses...they were dominating, rude and hot-tempered, but their energy could be channeled.
Nick knew how to get those horses to run because he knew how those bloodlines reacted, but Predator...he just seemed angry. ALL THE TIME. His only mellow points was when he was in his paddock by himself grazing and when he was with Adele.
Beauty and the Beast. She chuckled at the thought.
Predator was a mystery, his bloodlines, history was a blank slate. When Nick had seen the two year old up for auction, he really got Predator out of pity. Predator was a pity buy. The thought seemed ironic to Adele seeing as Pred was one of IR's most successful two year olds.
No one had wanted the bitter horse, but Nick had also seen something great in the bay colt and already they had proven Nick's instincts right.
Today was just an acclimating day. Adele knew it would be important for her and Predator to be familiar with the tracks here.
She asked Pred for a moderate gallop and with a flippant toss of his head, he acquiesced to her command.
That's my boy... She cooed in his ear as she stood in her irons...seeing the whole track from her vantage point.
It really was a good thing the track was empty...the level of stress always seemed to go up whenever Pred saw another horse...it was like he went into hunting mode...hence his name's sake.
Well...at least for now the coast was clear...
